New Year, New Reflections

By Amy Robinson

“Good Riddance 2020” and “I can’t wait for 2020 to be over” are messages I’ve heard often (including in my own head)! I think what we are really saying is, “I can’t wait for this pandemic to be over.” Even though the calendar has turned, we are still in the midst of a pandemic with the light at the end of a long tunnel. We must continue to persevere, trust our resilience and reach out for help when needed and to help when possible.

While it is tempting to SLAM the door on 2020, it is imperative we reflect on this past year and the lessons we have learned as individuals and a collective. Our country has gone through upheaval and the light of awareness has illuminated some dark corners of our society around inequity, racism, narcissism and fear. If we ignore this past year and only look forward, we run the risk of going back into ignorance and denial.

AND this is a new beginning. Each day, each breath is an opportunity to consider, “how do I want to show up in this moment of time?”

My own yoga practice has steadied me to sit with discomfort and fear and to continue to LIVE and experience moments of peace and joy. I have been heartened by our community who have stayed committed to their yoga practice and braved Zoom, and I am filled with gratitude for my powerful, resilient staff that rallied to learn a new way of offering yoga virtually.

Yoga studios are still mandated to be closed and it may be awhile still until it is safe for our community to open the doors for in person classes. If you are waiting for the doors to reopen, please don’t let that keep you from coming back to your mat and receiving the benefits of this practice. Please take a deep breath and join us in our Livestream classes for your well-being.

With blessings for the New Year,
